The well-known gameplay videos for Hogwarts Legacy are driving the anticipation of fans of the Harry Potter saga to infinity. Now the community is wondering whether the role-playing game will have a local co-op or multiplayer mode. We’ll tell you in this guide and share the current status with you.
For many players, it is essential to know whether a game is single-player or multiplayer. In this guide, we’ll tell you whether you’ll be able to discover the Wizarding World with your friends or not, and we’ll make your purchase decision easier.
Hogwarts Legacy: Will there be a multiplayer mode?
Hogwarts Legacy is a purely single-player game. That means there will be no multiplayer mode or local co-op. This is especially unfortunate because the title is being released for all relevant platforms and would thus offer many exciting cross-play possibilities.
The developer writes on the official website: “Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world, single-player, action role-playing videogame (RPG) set in the 1800s wizarding world,” – in other words, a clear rejection of multiplayer fans.
Whether local co-op or multiplayer will be added to Hogwarts Legacy at a later date is currently not foreseeable. However, we think this is unlikely, since the nature of the game would make a subsequent implementation difficult. But there are also positive examples where numerous requests from the community led to a subsequent multiplayer mode – or at least such a mode was promised.
We can think of Medieval Dynasty, which was initially developed by the developer for single players, but will be playable in co-op in the future. If something changes in the state of affairs, you’ll find out here in this article at a later time.
Why is there no multiplayer in Hogwarts Legacy?
There is no statement about this in the gameplay video or in the Behind-the-Screnes talk. The developers and staff only emphasize that players will have their own unique experiences with the game. This also coincides with what is written in the FAQ section of the website.
The statements from the FAQs and what is said in the trailer and behind-the-scenes video could mean that the actions of the players will also influence the story and thus make it individual. For example, the FAQs talk about a possible Kobolt uprising – which sounds to us like you could prevent it with your decisions.
Maintain friendships: A.I. won’t let you down
Even though there is no multiplayer in Hogwarts Legacy – you still don’t have to roam the large game world alone. You can make friends with other students. Depending on how much they like you, they’ll accompany you on your adventures and fight side by side with you. Your companions also increase their abilities and thus strengthen you in battle. Another advantage is that you won’t have to feel too lonely during your explorations.
Whether you can take more than one companion with you on your journey remains to be seen. Due to the lack of co-op mode, it would be especially interesting if you could give combat instructions to your companions – like having them attack a specific enemy, fall back, or follow you in battle.
Early leaks turned out to be false
Prior to Warner Bros.’ official statements, rumors circulated online that Hogwarts Legacy would be playable with multiple people in multiplayer – such as informing minigames in Quidditch or the now-confirmed Broom Race. Corresponding tweets from AccountNGT have since been deleted.
